ROBERT HIGHT
Robert Bob Leland Hight, 70, of Washougal, died June 21, 2013. He was born March 20, 1943 in Twin Falls, ID and graduated high-school in Jerome, ID. He was the only surviving child of Edna Elizabeth Blunt and Arnold Francis Shurtz, who had three other children that died as infants.
He is survived by his high-school sweetheart and wife of 50 years later this month, Karen Marie Shewmaker, wedded on June 28th, 1963. Also surviving are his two daughters, Elizabeth May and Amber Rohrer; four sons, Robert Hight II, Eric Hight, Todd Hight, and Arnold Hight; 13 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.
Bob was a member of the Washougal community for 30 years, moving here from southern Idaho to work as a lineman for Clark Public Utilities, and a union leader for the IBEW Local 125. He was active as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, holding many leadership positions, but is most remembered for his work as a leader of young men in the Boy Scouts. He was an avid outdoors-man with a love for camping and hiking. He also gave his time serving on school board for The Washougal School District.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 1, 2013 at 1pm at the Washougal Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints with Bishop Verdeck officiating. The burial will follow at the Washougal Memorial Cemetery. The visitation will be from 11:30 to 12:45 prior to the service.
