Obituary of Robert Wayne Gassin
Robert Wayne Gassin
September 7, 1937 to October 10, 2024
He was president of his senior class at George Washington High School in 1954, and on Youth in Government Day, for one day, he was working as Mayor of San Francisco.
After high school he attended University of California in Berkeley and graduated in June 1960, with honors as a member of Tau Beta Pi, The National Engineering Honor Society as President.
In 1964, after college, with a few of his close friends, they started a company building apartment housing around the San Francisco Bay area. By 1968, their company had grown into Systech Financial of Walnut Creek, California.
In 1971, he received a political note from Jerome R. Waldie, who was a United States Congressman, congratulating him on his work with Systech Financial Corporation as Vice President. Shortly after this, the company was sold to the giant corporation, Dillingham. Around the same time, his first wife suddenly passed away. He decided to stay at home with his daughter.
In 1979, he moved to Durham, California, with his daughter, and bought a ranch and grew Kiwi's. In 1986 he remarried and 13 months later he had a son.
Due to the physical stress of caring for his Kiwi's, in 2003, he decided to sell the ranch and move into town, which was Chico, California. At this point he became interested in the Stock Market, and he was doing very well as a private investor for the rest of his life.
In 2009, we all decided to move to Vancouver, Washington, where his sister, Barbara lived. We loved the area and bought a house there, but early in 2020, he was diagnosed with Dementia, and his last years were difficult for the entire family.
Robert is survived by his wife of 38 years, Gayle, and daughter from his first wife, Lisa, and his son, Christopher, and stepchildren, Donna and her husband Troy, and Matt and his wife, Janet.
