Obituary of Donald Allen Davis

Please share a memory of Donald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Donald Allen Davis of Camas, Washington passed away on December 7th, 2023 at the age of 90. Don was born at home, to George and Florence Davis of Wilmot, South Dakota on August 20th, 1933. He was the second of eight children.

Don's family lived on various farms in Wilmot, but at the age of 15 he went to stay with his uncle and aunt in Hancock, Iowa and lived there working on his uncle’s farm until he graduated from high school. His family then moved out west to find work in construction. Soon Don was drafted into the Army and sent to serve in Korea. When he returned home from serving in the Army he met his beautiful bride, Eileen Souders.
They were married on June 16, 1957. They lived in a little house in Camas until 1961, then moved to their eleven-acre farm in Fern Prairie where they still live today. They had two children, Rick & Karen, who were the joy of his life. Don worked at the papermill in Camas until his retirement in June 1994.

Don grew up surrounded by three brothers, four loving sisters and many cousins, aunts and uncles. In his youth, and throughout his life, he enjoyed riding horses, driving tractors, and working on the farm. He was a natural athlete and loved to play, coach, and officiate baseball games. As an adult his hobbies included: camping, gardening, fishing, cutting firewood, spending time in “God's Country” at his Appleton, WA cabin (that he built), being an active member of the Fern Prairie United Methodist Church and spending lots of time with their large extended family, and caring neighbors.

The most important thing to Don was his family. His wife of 66 years - Eileen, children: Rick (Susan) Davis, Karen (Dean) Rudolf, Grandchildren: Shauna (Keith) Johnson, Jennifer (Jason) Boylan, Kayla (Gregg) Foster, and Justin Davis. His six great- grandchildren (Audrey, Brooklyn, Mila, Jaycee, Fisher, and Cruz) brought him an immense amount of enjoyment as he taught them all of the tips and tricks of life on the farm.

Don is preceded in death by his parents George and Florence, his brothers: Richard and Frank Davis, and his sisters: Dorothy Doschadis, and Betty Scheuffele. Survivors include his siblings: Glen Davis, Janet Milhollin and Barb Voogt, and many, many much loved nieces, nephews, and brother/sister-in-laws.

The family has immense gratitude for his tireless caregivers, Sofia and Leelish Fernandes, and the wonderful staff at Angel Meadows Assisted Living Home. They are also grateful for the Peace Health nurses, and Hospice Angels on Earth, for their loving care of Don at the end of his long life.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 27th, 2024 at the Fern Prairie United Methodist Church, 26112 NE Brunner Road, Camas.
