Obituary of Richard Lee Meyer, Sr.
Richard "Bud" Meyer of Camas passed away peacefully on December 1, 2023 at the age of 90. Born in Columbus, Nebraska, he was the son of John and Elizabeth Meyer.
Bud graduated from Camas High School in 1952. Following graduation, he started working at Crown Zellerbach. Soon after he was drafted into the US Army where he served for two years. When he returned from Fort Lewis, Bud continued his previous job at "the Mill" where he worked for nearly 50 years, retiring in 2001. Bud married June Francis in 1956 and together they raised eight children.
The middle child, Bud grew up surrounded by four brothers and six loving sisters. As a youngster he was an excellent athlete and continued his love of sports as an adult through coaching, umpiring, officiating, bowling and playing pool. Bud's hobbies included his garden and tinkering on old cars. Bud was often seen driving one of his antique cars in the Camas Days Parade.
Bud loved his large family. He is preceded in death by his wife, June Meyer, son, Jim Meyer, and daughter, Judy Meyer-Carroll. Survivors include his sisters, Sandy Carner, Diana Meyer and Betty Ventura, his children Renee (Rob) Mattson, Lori (Steve) Johnson, Rick Meyer; John (Lisa) Meyer, Kim Martin, Kay Martinez, 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, January 7, 2024 at the AWPPW Union Hall, 514 NE Dallas St, Camas, WA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the ALS Association.
