Obituary of Donna May Carver

Please share a memory of Donna to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Donna May Carver, 92, of Washougal, WA, passed away on August 28, 2023. She was born on November 28, 1930, in Camas, WA, and was a lifelong friend and teacher. Donna's joyful and encouraging nature was built on a life of faith and love for both people and adventure. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Donna is survived by her sister, Doris Fitz of Redding, CA, and her sons, John Carver of Washougal and Bill Carver of Burlington, lowa. She is also survived by her grandson, Chase Carver, cousins Arlen (and Pearl) Buhman, of Yuma, AZ and numerous nieces and nephews. Donna was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Johnny Carver, and her parents, John and Fay Holmes.

Donna's passion for teaching was evident throughout her career. She taught 3rd grade for 38 years in our community, leaving a lasting impact on countless young minds. She was recognized as Teacher of the Year for Western Washington's Woodring College of Education and served as a grade level team leader. Donna was also a proud member of the teaching sorority Delta Kappa Gamma for 40 years. She cherished teaching children how to read and brought a sense of adventure to her classroom through stories, crafts, and encouragement.

She helped guide many future educators through their student teaching experience with great joy and success. Donna worshipped at the Washougal Church of the Nazarene, where she served as a Missionary Leader for 30 years. Her faith was an integral part of her life and she found great joy in serving others.

Outside of her teaching career, Donna had a thirst for exploration. She was raised camping and felt at home in the forest, from Mt. Rainier to Mt. Hood, and everywhere in-between. In the early 50s, she and fellow college friends embarked on a biking trip around Europe, and later in life, she visited all of the American states, most with her husband Johnny. She reached her 50th state, South Carolina, at the age of 85. Donna had a passion for National Parks and made sure to capture a picture in each one. When she wasn't on a trip, she enjoyed searching for great deals in shopping malls and craft stores. Donna also found solace in reading, puzzles, and art. However, her greatest joy came from connecting with friends and family.

By her wishes, no formal services will be held at this time. A gathering for family will be held at a later time to celebrate Donna's life.

In honor of Donna's love for children, donations can be made to the Washougal School Foundation for Children's Literacy. Contributions will help continue Donna's legacy of fostering a love for reading among young minds.

Donna May Carver lived a life filled with love, faith, and adventure. Her impact as a teacher and her joyful spirit will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in peace.
