Joan Constance Clarke Obituary

Joan Constance Clarke

Joan Constance Clarke passed away peacefully on February 28, 2023 at her home at Rock Cove Assisted Living in Stevenson. Born on December 2, 1920 in Bristol, England to Ernest and Beatrice Brecknel Joy. Joan was 102 years old.

Joan was a Veteran of England’s Women’s Auxiliary Air Force where she served honorably as a RAF plotter of air traffic monitoring during World War II. It was at the aerodrome where she met her loving husband, Peter Trevor Clarke of 70 years, who passed away on August 15, 2013.

After the war, they moved first to Canada and then to the east coast where they raised their family. Eventually they retired to the Columbia Gorge where Joan satisfied her life long dream of living in a place surrounded by trees.

Joan is survived by her brother Gordon Joy of Bristol, England, son Tony Clarke (wife Rose) of Keaau, Hawaii; daughters Annette Medlin of Stevenson, Washington and Hilary Reidy (husband Justin) of Newark, Delaware; and three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Joan will be remembered for her positive outlook on life, forthrightness and loving nature. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Joan’s memory to be sent to Doctors Without Borders Usa PO Box 5030 Hagerstown, MD. 21741-5030.
