Please share a memory of Frank to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
FRANK L. DETEMPLE Frank L. DeTemple, a lifelong resident of Fern Prairie, died January 11, 2013 at Polly's Adult Foster Home where he received great care for the past year. He was 92. Frank was born November 16, 1920 in Goldendale, WA. His parents purchased a farm in Fern Prairie when Frank was 2 years old. This was his home for the rest of his life except for the years in the Army as part of the Air Corps engineers during WWII. As a boy, besides helping on his family's farm, Frank milked a neighbor's cows before walking to the two-room Fern Prairie School with his siblings Marie, Charles and Lucille. He graduated from Camas High School. Frank, a foreman, worked for Crown Zellerbach for forty years. Frank is remembered for driving a nice car, dressing smartly, and enjoying a good meal with family or at social gatherings. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge, American Legion, VFW, and a fifty year member of the Fern Prairie Grange serving in a leadership role. He helped his brother, Charles with haying and with the cattle. But Frank's love was for flower gardening. He also served on the weed control board. He was a kind and honorable man having many friends among his neighbors. Never being married, Uncle Frankie is warmly remembered by his nephew, Duane Norton, nieces, Betty Ahrendt, Judy Garland, Char Cloud, and Karen Moore and their families. He was preceded in death by sister, Marie Norton and nephew, Randy Brown. Frank is survived by his brother, Charles DeTemple of Fern Prairie and sister, Lucille Brown of Battle Ground. A funeral service will be held at Straub's Funeral Home in Camas on Wednesday, January 16 at 11AM followed by a reception at the Camas Library. Burial will be private at the Fern Prairie Cemetery. Memorial donations can be given to Southwest Washington Hospice Care. To send condolences or to sign the online guest book please visit www.straubsfuenralhome.com.
