Rebecca Morris
Rebecca Becky Carol Morris, 33, passed away on December 30, 2012 at her home in Washougal, WA after a short but courageous battle with metastatic melanoma. She was born on December 29, 1979 in Owatonna, MN to John and Gayle Baker Hofmann.
Becky grew up in rural Ellendale and graduated from Owatonna High School in 1998. In high school, she was a member of the National Honor Society and the softball and basketball teams. After high school, Becky attended the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point, where she graduated with honors with degrees in Watershed Management and Soils Science. She was a member of the Gamma Phi Delta sorority.
Becky worked for the USDA, Natural Resource Conservation Service for the past eight years as a Soil Scientist, Conservation Planner, and most recently as a Watershed Planner in the Oregon State office.
In 2005, Becky married Carlton Morris in Negril, Jamaica. They were happily married for seven years. In July 2011, their daughter Amica was born. Becky was also step-mother to Mariah and Bryson Morris.
Becky enjoyed being outdoors and loved to travel, hike, fish, camp, and tend her garden. She especially enjoyed traveling back to her family's cabin in northern Minnesota, where she always caught more fish than her dad and brothers. She was a gifted athlete and played softball whenever she had the opportunity.
Family, co-workers, and friends knew Becky as one of the hardest-working people they had ever met. Becky always attributed this trait to her years of growing up and working on the family's wildflower farm in southern Minnesota.
Becky is survived by her husband Carlton; the light of her life, daughter Amica; stepson Bryson Morris of Omak, WA; stepdaughter Mariah Morris of Spokane, WA; her brothers Andy Hofmann of Waseca, MN and Nick Brandi Hofmann of Owatonna, MN; her parents John and Gayle Baker Hofmann of Ellendale, MN; her maternal grandparents; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A celebration of Becky's life will be held on Saturday January 5, 2013 between 1pm and 4pm @ the Camas Meadows Golf Club, 4105 NW Camas Meadows Drive, Camas, WA, 98607. There will also be a celebration of Becky's life held in Owatonna, MN with the location/date/time to be determined. Becky's ashes will be spread at her parents' property in northern Minnesota.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorial donations be made to Amica Morris c/o Chase Bank, 733 E St, Washougal, WA 98671. Condolences may be left on Becky Morris' online guestbook at www.straubsfuneralhome.com.
Becky was an inspiration to so many people throughout her years on this earth. She was a hard worker, a competitive athlete, and someone who wanted to see it all and do it all. She challenged so many of us to broaden our horizons to go places and do things that we never thought of doing. As she fought this battle against this terrible cancer, she inspired so many of us to fight the good fight and to never give up. We all love her dearly and she will be missed more than words can ever say.
