I will never forget flying back from Kosovo with Mr. Campbell on a small plane he was able to use in his role as a Senior Executive Staff member for US Army Europe (USAREUR). He was a wonderful leader and mentor. He was extremely smart yet humble. He will be missed by the USAREUR Comptroller community.

I worked for a time as Bill's Executive Officer in Germany. Bill was one of my favorite bosses; caring and thoughtful. Afterwards I ran into Bill many times in the Pentagon and he was never too busy to stop, catch up and offer kind words or guidance. My thoughts and prayers are with Bill and his family.

I am so sorry for your loss. I had the pleasure of working with, and learning from, Bill for many years. He was always calm, very generous, and insightful. His obituary captures his essence perfectly. My family’s prayers are with you. We are blessed to have been touched by his life.

I worked for Bill during his time at OMB. He was always kind, thoughtful, professional, and ethical. Even though I didn't know him very long, he made an impression on me like he did on many others. His was a life well lived!

What can I saw about Bill that wasn't yet said? As a employee of Habitat for Humanity I can tell you he was a "can do" man. Anytime there was a task that others didn't want to do, he was the first one to jump on it from climbing extension ladders to get that last bit of caulking, to climbing under the houses to finish insulation, you know the down and dirty tasks. But really that is the kind of guy he was, always willing to help with a little twinkle in his eye. We will really miss having him around, but I will think of him fondly next time I am caulking around the houses (everyone's favorite), or going on a hike.

My sincerest condolences to the Campbell family and friends of Bill. He was one of the finest persons I ever worked for or with. I don't think I could have survived my time in Army Budget without him. His professionalism and calm demeanor prevailed in all situations. May God's love and your memories of Bill sustain you through this difficult time.

Bill was a dear friend, and I valued my time with him, spanning not quite two years. We shared a lot in common in our lives and he was a terrific listener, very centered, kind, witty.
My heart goes out to his family, Kathy, Ian, Neil, his extended family and many friends.
Four of us got together the other evening and talked about Bill and toasted him. We were in the cafe for nearly four hours and they didn't throw us out!
May Bill rest in peace!

From the minute we moved into the neighborhood we knew Bill and Kathy were special people that would become friends. Bill was the kind of person who was always there to help out when Callie and Lucy (our pups) needed him or when the neighborhood needed help with a project. One of my fondest memories that still makes me smile is when Callie saw our nephew up the hill, she started to run toward him but the instant she saw Bill on his lawn, she took a direct detour across the street to get some love from him first! We will always remember the happy times spent during holidays and gatherings. Bill will without a doubt be missed by all the members of our family.

You know how we feel about all of you. More than friends, you are family to us. We were truly blessed to have Bill in our lives. We could not have asked for a better friend. His being part of our lives was a true gift: always there for the good times and the bad. There was always that little fierce competition when it came to sports. He was a calming presence with a great sense of humor and a love of family and life. He will always live in our hearts.
Love: Joe and Linda

In May this year, Bill and I went on a hike. We were both shocked at how much snow was still on the ground. His big truck actually got stuck, but we managed to free it from the snow. We were in shorts! We'd walk some and without notice we'd take a step and suddenly sink in the snow to over our knees! It was a nice adventure! Like Bill I love nature. After a while, we just sat on some rocks and talked as we took in the beauty of nature. Bill was like a big brother to me. In fact, he and my older brother are the same age. However, the family members that live closest to us are about 2,500 miles away. I really enjoyed having coffee and hiking with Bill, but most of all I liked talking with him. I remember how proud he was of his sons. I remember how much he loved Kathy. He was a good man and I was happy he was was friend. I will miss you, Bill. May you rest in peace.
