Please share a memory of Carl to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
CARL R. WOODBURN Carl Rankin Woodburn died Oct. 28, 2012, in Vancouver. He was 77. He was born April 15, 1935, in Globe, Ariz. When Carl was 10 years old, the family moved to Portland where he attended Buckman Elementary School. He later moved to Milwaukee, and attended Milwaukee High School where he excelled in football and baseball. He graduated in 1953, and continued his education on a sports scholarship at Lewis and Clark College. Over the years Carl held management positions for I.M.L. Trucking and later Ringsby Freight. Carl moved the family to Vancouver, and in 1971 he started his own business, Woodburn Freight Service, Inc. He sold the business in 2005 to enjoy retirement, which included travels to Europe, the Oregon Coast and Hawaii. Carl continued his love of sports, from attending Portland Trail Blazer and Beaver games to cheering on his grandchildren at their sporting activities. He also enjoyed countless hours tending to his yard and filling the many bird feeders around his home. Carl was a loving, sweet man. Throughout his life he would often put others' needs above his own and was always a perfect gentleman. Carl is survived by his wife, Carolyn, his devoted soul-mate and partner of more than 30 years; children; Sherri Slawson Bob, Carl Woodburn, Traci Doyle Chuck, Laurie Larsen Brad and Wendi Woodburn; step-children, Lynn Johnston Alison and Rene Carroll; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Gary Woodburn in 1997; and two grandchildren, Canaan Doyle and Tana Woodburn. At Carl's request, no services will be held. Straub's Funeral Home and Columbia River Cremation in Camas is in charge of arrangements. To send condolences or sign the online guest book, visit www.straubsfuneralhome.com.
