Obituary of Eleanor Frances Loy

ELEANOR F. LOY December 18, 1917 ~ September 29, 2012 Eleanor Frances Loy, 94, of Vancouver, WA, passed away Sept. 29, 2012. She was born Dec. 18, 1917 in Shawnee, OK, the only child of Charles and Beulah Irvine. Eleanor attended Kansas City General Hospital School of Nursing in Kansas City, MO, then pursued a career as a registered nurse. During World War II she was a member of the Army Nurse Corps and served in a tent hospital in Normandy, France. After the war, Eleanor was visiting the White Salmon area with one of her Army Nurse Corps friends, when she met Tony Loy. They were married a few months later and spent 57 years together until he died in 2003. They lived in White Salmon until 1989, when they moved to Vancouver. Eleanor continued a part-time nursing career, working at Skyline Hospital in White Salmon, with the Klickitat County Health Department, and volunteering with the Blood Bank. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and P.E.O. Eleanor is survived by her children: Judy Loy Woody Starr, Jim Loy Susan Millar, and Janet McCormick; four granddaughters, Heather Anderson, Adrienne Huls, Riley McCormick, and Tesla Loy; and four great-grandsons. A family service will be held at a later date. Internment will be at Willamette National Cemetery. Straub's Funeral Home & Columbia River Cremation in Camas was in charge of the arrangements.
