James May passed away on July 25, 2012 in Camas at the age of 87. He was born on May 25, 1924 in Knoxville, TN the oldest of eight brothers and sisters. James joined the Army Air Force and served during WWII. After his service he began working for the railroad and moved to Portland. James taught ballroom dancing at Arthur Murray Studio in Portland. That is where he met Joan Hans who he married on February 11, 1950. They would move to Vancouver and to the Washougal area. James retired from the railroad and enjoyed clam digging, surf fishing and bird watching. He was also active in the American Legion and was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Camas.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan May and brother, Rex May.
Survivors include his sons, James May, III of Coolidge, AZ, Hans May of Long Beach, WA; daughters, Angela Barcus of Silverdale, WA, April May of Kennewick, WA; brothers, Don May of Knoxville, TN, Bobby May of Denver, CO, Fred Henderson of Knoxville, TN; sisters, Iris Moen of Melbourne, FL, Wilma Keith of Knoxville, TN, Mary Sue Reaves of Penn Valley, CA; 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
