1st Lieutenant James Menardi Renton Ret,
Army of the United States
Nov. 28, 1921 – June 25, 2012
James M. Renton, 90, a retired Lieutenant in the Army of the United States, died peacefully in his home in Vancouver, WA.
Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Meda nee Menardi and James Lewis Renton, James began college at Virginia Military Institute. He served his country in the Pacific during World War II, receiving high honors including the Bronze Star and three Purple Hearts. After the war, he completed his bachelor degree in business at the University of Oregon and post-graduate work at New York University.
James married Nancy Beth Buell in August 1947. After retiring from the State of Oregon, where he served as the Student Loan Director for the Oregon State Scholarship Commission, he and Nancy enjoyed traveling throughout the world, visiting 108 countries and learning about their cultures.
James was active in his church, the Boy Scouts of America, Rotary and the Republican Party and was a patron of the Oregon Bach Festival.
James is survived by his wife, Nancy nee Buell / Boylen; two sons: James Candee and Richard Roxanna; two grandchildren: Wendy Peterson Alan and Wes Renton Dani; three great granddaughters: Sierra, Aspen and Stella, and his sister Margaret. James was preceded in death by his son, John Renton.
James will be buried, with full military honors, in a private ceremony at the Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon.
