DOUGLAS FREDERICK MILLER
ã??
Douglas F. Miller, age 82, passed away June 2, 2010 in Camas, WA. He was born September 8, 1927 in Camas to Florence Greer and Raymond F. Miller. He graduated from high school in 1945 and immediately joined the Navy. His mother had to sign for him since he was only 17. He served two years on Oahu as an Aviation Machinist Mate. After his discharge he returned to Camas and studied one year at University of Portland. In 1950 he enrolled in Whitman College, becoming a member of Phi Delta Theta. It was there that he met Jeanne Ericson. They eloped, not even telling their best friends or family, until returning to Camas. Douglas worked in the Paper Mill in various departments retiring from the Chemical Products Division as a plant engineer in 1982.
Douglas was a member of Orchard Hills Golf and Country Club for over 40 years. He also was a member of the Moose Lodge, American Legion, Boy Scouts and the Oregon Mycological Society. One of his greatest passions was serving for 27 years as a volunteer firefighter for the Camas Fire Department. Through his involvement with his children's scouting, he developed a love of backpacking and camping which led to the joy of mushrooming.
Douglas was always looking for ways to enrich his life. He took many classes at Clark College for that purpose including Aviation Ground School and S.C.U.B.A. certification.
Douglas is survived by his wife Jeanne, at home; sons Bruce Miller of Washougal and Brian Miller of Carson; daughters Chrystal Miller of Beaverton and Terresa Tammy Kraft of Camas; brother Larry Miller of Camas; sister Nancy Liles of Washougal; 5 grandchildren, Steven, Brianna, Gabe, Jacob and Sarah. He was preceded in death by one brother Everett.
The family would like to express their thanks to RN Cathey and Aide Joyce who came to the house and to Dr. Brian Harwood for their loving and expert care.
