I am deeply sorry the Hawk passed away and never got the chance to see him again, he left a lot of good friends in Chamela and Puerto Vallarta Jalisco in Mexico. I found one of his letters today and decided to look for him, since I had no reply on his e mails, I decided to look for his phone number. Such is life. My husband Charlie & I were sorry to hear of Billy's passing. We both have fond memories of him. My first memories of him... his arrival back to the US when he & Odette stayed with my family in PA. I also remember how welcoming he and Odette were to me while I was in college in CA and visited Riverside on weekends. He was at my graduation, my wedding and even thought time and distance drew us apart, he was always in my thoughts Our prayers and thoughts are with all of you. He is now at peace Love Judy & Charlie Wildman

My earliest memory of Bill is his first visit to our home outside of Philadelphia in 1950 or 1951. He arrived in his USMC uniform and instantly became this 7 or 8 year olds hero. Nobody I knew had a relative who was a Marine. Bill would visit often when on leave from the USS Coral Sea by taking a train from Norfolk or saving a few bucks by 'thumbing' a ride. He always spent time with me playing catch with a baseball or football or teaching me how Marines played cards. I would send him letters while he was on cruise and he would always answer. He came back from Rabat with Odette and Elizabeth. The family visited a few times before Bill left the Corps and moved to LaPuente Ca. We moved to Phoenix in 1958 and our first visitors were Bill and family who had moved to Riverside. Bill had put on a few pounds but when a camera appeared he was always able to suck it in so he looked like a Marine. The last time I saw the whole family was when I visited Riverside in early 1962. The last time I saw Bill was Aug 1979 when he came for my mothers funeral but he was always in our thoughts and prayers as we learned of his various personal and health problems. His body language, his laugh and the twinkle in his eye always reminded me of Arnold Palmer. Bill will always be my hero. Ginger and I send our sympathies to all.
