Russell,
Ewe left us too soon. Your family here met ewe & loved ewe.
We would have loved to hear you play your guitar at our family reunions & just get to know ewe better. Ewe are a true SMITH. All the SMITH men I have known are truly big cuddly bears that you can't help but love.
Anna,
I know your heart is broken and that ewe loved your brother Russell very much. I am so sorry we all lost him in our lives.
"One dies, One is born". One of my thoughts when my brother Mark passed away & almost at the same time a child is born into the family. Not that it makes our grief any less real but it does help to get thru the heavy grief period.
Love ewe Anna & Family from Julie

Our Love For One of Our Best Friends
I met Russ in 1982. We were good friends for 28 years.
We sang together. We danced together. We played together. We drank a lot of beer together.
When he played guitar in his band, I was his biggest fan. I remember catching him practicing in front of a big mirror and the look on his face when he realized he'd been caught.
My son, Tysun, grew up with his "Uncle Russ" always around; playing music in Grandma Schappell's garage, camping with our family, sharing time toether.
Russell, you were dearly loved and will be sadly missed.
Love,
Lesa and Tysun Cole

I met Russell in 1999, shortly after meeting Lesa Cole. He was our neighbor and one of Lesa's best friends. He was a little leary of me at first, having been friends with Tony Cole first and wanting to look out for Lesa's best interests. But as the years past, he seemed genuinely pleased that we were happy and had stayed together.
Our friendship began with our common interest- the guitar. I will always remember him taking me to the Round Up for open mike night. He wouldn't join me onstage, but he made an excellent audince, encouraging me to play.
I didn't know him well, but I feel I am a better man for having known him. I will miss you Russ.
Sincerely
Scott Dunoven

Russell, my brother, my friend. I will miss you beyond words. You touched the lifes of many people with your sincere kindness. I heard this poem called "The Dash" written by Linda Ellis. I wanted to share.
I read of a man who stood to speak, at the funeral of a friend.
He referred to the dates on this tombstone from beginning...to the end.
He noted that first came his date of birth and spoke the following with tears. But he said what mattered most of all, was the dash in between those years.
For the dash represents, all the time he spent alive on earth.
And how only those who loved him know what that little line is worth.
For it matters not, how much we own; the cars, the house, the cash, what matters most is how we live and love and how we spend our dash… So think about this long and hard. Are there things you’d like to change?

Rus told Kelsey and I that our children Blake, Dade, and Erin were something special. He loved them very much and and the news we received was heartbreaking. He will be deeply missed, and we hope things ride over well with the rest of the family. We only regret he didnt have a chance to see the kids one last time before he passed. He was a kind and loving man....we will miss you Uncle Rus.

I CAN STILL HEAR HIS SOLOS IN MY HEAD......ALSO RUSS WAS A GENIUNELY GOOD FRIEND, A CARING PERSON, AND LOVED HIS FRIENDS, HIS SISTER, AND FAMILY. ALTHOUGH ITS BEEN A FEW YEARS SINCE I SAW YOU LAST,YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN, REALLY. ANYONE WHO WANTS TO HELP ME ORGANIZE A MUSIC TRIBUTE JAM SESSION FOR RUSS, PLEASE CALL ME AT 360-980-0082.
