Obituary of Elizabeth Theresia Wurzer

Please share a memory of Elizabeth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Elizabeth Theresia Wurzer September 19, 1917 – June 7, 2012 Elizabeth Theresia Steidl Wurzer was born to Anton and Rosalia Steidl on September 19, 1917, in Fingal, North Dakota, and died on June 7, 2012, at the age of 94 with many loved ones around her. She lived her early life in Fingal and met her husband Herman Wurzer there at one of the many local "house dances". They were married in Fingal on September 24, 1936. Herman died in August of 1985 after 48 years of marriage. She moved with her husband and first two children to Amboy, Washington in 1942. They worked in the Vancouver Shipyards. The whole family loved the area with its greenness and climate and knew they would stay. In Washington she had three more children. In 1948 she and her family made a final move to Washougal where she lived as a homemaker for 64 years. Elizabeth lived very happily in that home for the rest of her life. Elizabeth was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Camas and also a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas for many years. Through the years she was a collector of miniature frying pans from many different states and areas. For a time she collected bells of many different types. And most recently she collected bears in many forms – stuffed ones, magnets, calendars, pictures, and more. Lately she had started giving away many of these bears to family, friends, and charities. She loved listening to country music and watching the Country Channel, and old comedy shows. She also greatly looked forward to watching all the dancing, singing, and talent competitions on TV. She was a mom, grandma, and friend to everyone who walked through her door. She wouldn't sit down until everyone else was taken care of. Her favorite place to visit with others was at the kitchen table. Elizabeth is survived by her daughters Irene Allen and Darlene Dale Croswell of Washougal; her son Thomas Wurzer of Washougal; her daughters-in-law Carol Wurzer and Linda Wurzer of Camas; her sister Cecelia Connelly of Renton, WA; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Herman Wurzer; and her two sons, Ivan and Gordon Wurzer; her sister Agnes Behm; and her brothers Edward and Herman Steidl. There will be a rosary service at Straub's Funeral Home in Camas on the preceding evening, Thursday, June 14th, at 6pm. Visitation will be from 10am to 5pm on Thursday. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Camas on Friday, June 15th at 11am. Interment will follow at the Camas Cemetery.
