RAYMOND "BUD" OLIVER WINDERS
2/21/1920 – 12/24/2009
Ray Winders, age 89, passed away December 24, 2009 at home in Washougal. He was born February 21, 1920 in Sioux City, Iowa where he was raised, attended school and helped on the family farm. In 1936 Ray and his family moved to the Fargher Lake area in Clark County, WA. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps during WWII. Ray was stationed in England and France earning four honors. In 1946 he married Mary Ann Schulte in Geddes, SD. They moved to Washougal, WA in 1949 and raised six children: Glen Winders Lillian, Ron Winders Jean, Rene' Metteer Kirk, Connie Callahan Bob, DeDe Winders and Mary Palmer. Ray worked for Westlie Motors in Camas for 33 years before retiring. Ray was a true patriot with a strong love for his country. He was an active member of his local VFW Post 4278 for many years. Ray enjoyed hunting, fishing and his family, with many Sunday drives to visit family and friends, camping and road trips.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann of 59 years.
He is survived by his children, 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
A rosary service will be held on Wednesday, December 30 at 6:00 PM at St. Thomas Catholic Church. A funeral mass will follow on Thursday at 11:00 AM at the church. Interment with military honors will be at the Washougal Memorial Cemetery. Straub's Funeral Home & Columbia River Cremation in Camas is in charge of the arrangements.
