Eva M. Buhman
Longtime Camas resident Eva M. Buhman died in Issaquah, Washington on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2009. She was 91 years old.
Eva was born in Libby, Montana on Jan. 5, 1918 to Ida and Harry Clemons.
When she was young, Eva's family moved west to Bend, Oregon where they lived for a short time before settling in Camas, Washington. She was a Camas High School graduate and married Wayne Buhman in 1937. They were together until Wayne's death in 1991.
Employed outside the home most of her married life, she worked as a clerk at the Coast to Coast store and several grocery store in Camas. During World War II, she was employed in the Vancouver Shipyard. After the war, the Camas Crown Zellerbach paper mill hired her. She was very proud of the engraved watch the mill gave her upon her retirement in 1980.
Eva's hobbies included working on the 5-acre property they owned near Fallen Leaf Lake, crocheting beautiful afghans, and playing drums in a senior citizen band that Wayne directed. She logged many hours of volunteer service entertaining at senior centers and nursing homes. She and Wayne also enjoyed dancing and traveling in their fifth wheel. She was a wonderful cook, but she loved taking people out to eat, "my treat."
Survivors include her two children, Linda Bentley and husband, Ralph, and Neil Buhman and wife Lois; two grandchildren, Tad Buhman and wife, Piper and Cindy Yarno and husband, George, seven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held Oct. 10, at the Camas Cemetery. Straub's Funeral Home and Columbia River Cremation in Camas was in charge of arrangements.
