Christy Louise Price Drake
Christy Louise Drake passed away Wednesday, August 5th, 2009, in Vancouver surrounded by family and friends.
She was born April 20th, 1936 in North Bonneville, WA to George Theodore Ted Price and Luta Elizabeth Price.
During her childhood, the family lived in North Bonneville, Gresham, and then in Washougal where she graduated from high school in 1954.
With her family, Christy attended the Congregational church in Washougal, and was a Rainbow girl. She met her husband, Ray Drake, when she was the soloist for a friend's wedding, and he was the best man. During 1954-1955 they both attended Northwest Christian College. They married in the fall of 1955, living first in Washougal, and then moving to their home in Camas. Their only child, Tina Louise, was born in 1956. Christy worked at the Woolen Mill in Washougal for a few years and then became a homemaker. They eventually moved to Fern Prairie, and to Hathaway Road in 1969.
Not only was Christy deeply faithful and involved in her church, but she was helpful within the community also. She worked in the HOSTS program at Lacamas Heights Elementary School and, for a time, was a member of the Soroptimists' Club. Christy and Ray also became members of a Good Sam chapter where they enjoyed many years of fun and cozy RVing in a camper, followed by a motor home and then trailers. Christy was a talented seamstress who could fit and sew suits and very fine clothing for her family. She also could knit and crochet. She decoupaged and tolepainted as well.
Christy was blessed with five wonderful grandchildren: Raymond Goodnight, Joshua Goodnight, Jeremiah Goodnight, John Michael Goodnight, and Jessica Goodnight. Those five grandchildren have so far produced several awesome great grandchildren for Grandma Christy: Jocelyn and Julieann Goodnight, daughters of Joshua and his wife, Jackie; Christopher Goodnight, son of Jeremiah; Timothy, Dalton, and Austin Goodnight, sons of John; and step grandsons, Michael, Drake, and Zach Anglin-Smith, stepsons of Jeremiah and wife, Leslie.
Christy was preceded in death by her father, Ted, in 1979. Christy's mother, Luta, died in 1986. Her great granddaughter, Faith Goodnight, died in 1999, and her brother, Ted, died this last June.
Christy's life was celebrated on Monday, August 10 at 6pm at the First Christian Church in Camas. Straub's Funeral Home & Columbia River Cremation in Camas was in charge of the arrangements. To send condolences or to sign the online guestbook visit www.straubsfuneralhome.com.
