Walter A. Buck and Ella Naomi Buttrick Walter A. Buck Buttrick passed away on May 22, 2009, at Southwest Washington Medical Center, in Vancouver. He was 89. Buck was born on May 7, 1920, in Philadelphia, Pa. He attended school there until he joined Civilian Conservation Corps. He entered military service as a private in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1941. He served in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He retired from active service in 1971 as a sergeant major. He met and married Ella Naomi Barnes in May 1947. She preceded him in death after 60 years of marriage. Buck was an avid sportsman, with baseball being his favorite. He was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Camas and participated in the Men's Bible Study breakfast. Following his military career, he attended Mira Costa College in San Diego, Calif, and worked for Southern California Edison Co. He also drove a school bus for the Washougal School District. Ella Naomi Buttrick was born Oct. 1, 1922, in Lindenwood, Ill. She died Jan. 19, 2008. She joined the U.S. Navy in February 1943 and became an aviation machinists mate, first class. She was discharged June 1947. Naomi was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She served as president of the church council and was pianist for various organizations. Her special interests were music and knitting. Buck and Naomi are survived by three sons, Rex, Scott and Brian, and one daughter, Connie Daniels; three grandchildren, Connie, Thomas, MacKinzie and three great-grandchildren, John, Turner, Kaitlyn and Janet Tenner-Boyd. Naomi is survived by her sister and brother-in-law Jean and Glen Blinde of Honolulu, HI, two nephews and one niece and their families. Memorial services will be held Friday, May 29, at 4pm at Zion Lutheran Church. Pastor Thomas Tweed presided. Memorials maybe given to Zion Lutheran Church, NE Fourth Avenue and Garfield, Camas, WA 98607.
