FLOYD E. HICKEL
April 30, 1948 â?? February 3, 2009
Floyd Edward Hickel, our beloved son, husband, father and friend passed away at home on February 3rd after a brave battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 60.
Floyd, who was the only child of Eddie and Theresa Hickel, was born on April 30, 1948 in Tioga, North Dakota. In search of work Floyd moved out west in 1966 planting his roots in the Clark County area. He was not afraid of hard work and for 13 years he and his wife Janet owned and operated a recycling center at the entrance of a local landfill. After the landfill closed they moved the business to their home in Ridgefield. Floydâ??s Recycling boxes are scattered throughout the county and through his recycling work Floyd made many loyal customers and friends. His ability to strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere served him well in his business and his life.
Floyd could fix anything he set his mind to which served him well when he and Janet bought a 1931 Model A coupe and joined the Beaver Chapter Model A Club. They later joined the Volcano Aâ??s Model A Club. It wasnâ??t long before Floyd turned his passion for Model Aâ??s into a business and began selling parts and accessories out of their home and at swap meets all over the Northwest. He and Janet spent nearly every weekend either at a swap meet or touring with their club. When they werenâ??t working Floyd and Janet loved to go camping in their RV and spending time with family.
Floyd is survived by his loving wife Janet of Ridgefield, his mother Theresa Thompson of Tioga, ND, daughter Marilyn Chris Hartman of Boise, ID, son Edward of Vancouver, son Kelly Kristina of Battle Ground and grandchildren Emily, Parker and Sam.
