Even though years and years have gone by, high School was a formative time.
It is funny but our classmates did stay in our minds for the rest of our lives. For me it has gotten a little cloudy because I moved so far away but when I dust it off and look back I still remember our classmates. Joe was a good man and I was sad today. I appreciate you telling everyone and I am glad that I was on the list.
Have a great day!

e-mail from the Brocks.12-3-08.
Thank you for passing on this sad news. We will be unable to attend as we will be in Charleston until the 9th. Please pass on our condolences to the family for us. Jim has been thinking so hard about him. I know how horrible it is to watch someone suffer from cancer as we have had family who have gone through something similar. Again thank you for your thoughtfulness. Sincerely, Kathy and Jim Brock

e-mail from Mike.
Hello to all my former classmates:
So sorry to hear about Joe. He was a good guy. Sorry I missed the service. I don\'t check my e-mails often enough.
I\'m also sorry I missed the opportunity to reconnect with all of you that may have been at the service. I hope that in the future we can all meet again.
My condolences to the Bartkowski family, Ed, Randy, and all that were close to Joe.
JoAnn, thank you for the notification.
Wishing all of you the best,

JoAnn, thank you for the message; I also received an email from Pat Crawford.
I was greatly saddened by the news.Of course, I never knew Joe as an adult, but remember him quite well from when we were students. Although we weren\'t close friends at that time, to me he was the closest to a Tom Sawyer type guy of anyone I\'ve met. For a while after we first moved up there my family stayed with the Johnston family a bit up the road from the Bartkowskis. I remember the boyish bumping commotion of Joe and his brothers getting on the bus, Joe\'s general friendliness, and going down to his place with Billy Johnston to swing out on a tree rope over a fairly steep slope, drop down into the pigs area and trying to ride some of their pigs. Great fun for a cityboy. I always liked Joe; his passing has been much in my thoughts since I received the news.
Hope all is well with you and yours.
Nuel

Dear family ~ I am so very sorry to hear about Joe\'s passing. I knew he was sick but I didn\'t know he\'d passed away until I saw the funeral procession Saturday & recognized Katie driving a car. I had wondered how he was doing after hearing he was ill.
He was a real special person although I remember a little boy running around & being obnoxious ~ only because I was 5 years older than him.
I have a picture that I cherish which my mom had showing 5 spic-n-span boys, all dressed in white suits for church ~ all the Bartkowski boys ~ before Belva was born, I think.
Joe grew into a caring, conscientious & kind man ~ one who will be sorely missed.
I went to Westlie\'s about a year ago & Joe did a double-take when he saw me ~ so cute. We got to visit a while & I\'m so glad I had that opportunity ~ he was a sweetheart. I\'m thinking & praying for you all. Take care of yourselves. Love, Zona

Had just asked Ron Brown how Joe was doing last Saturday, so I was shocked to see his picture in the Camas Post on Tuesday. Joe will be missed by all. He truly cared about Camas and about his fellow veterans. My fondest memory is that he always stood up for the little guy. Rest in Peace Joe.

We will always remember Joe as the kindest, most honest, straight-forward guy. We bought EVERY car we ever owned from Joe. He\'d see us coming and would greet us with a huge smile and would know exactly what car to help us choose. Not a lemon in the bunch and neither was Joe, he\'ll always be a sweetie in our book. Our condolances and prayers to all his family and friends.

Joe was my double first cousin. Our mothers were sisters and our fathers were brothers. Joe was born only two days before me and now he has died before me, guess he always wanted to be first. I didn\'t see him while he was sick, so I\'ll always remember his smile.

I knew Joe as an honest and skilled auto saleman--one who could always be trusted. Over the years I have bought all of my cars from the same agency--because I could count on Joe to sell me what I needed at the right price. He was an honest man in times and places where many others were not honest. He will be missed by many. I am very sorry for your loss, and for the loss to the community.

I am so saddened to hear about Joe. I worked with him at NWF for years where he was a shift supervisor. He was always so sweet and courteous and helpful. He was so special, and so well liked. The world has lost a great guy. My thoughts are with his family. I did not know he was sick, and it makes it even worse to hear he was sick for what sounds like a period of time. What a wonderful soul he was.

Joe was easy to like and his absence will be deeply felt by the people of Camas. He was a genuine icon around town. My reflections on him and his life only bring good thoughts.
