Obituary of Marcus Lincoln Youngs, Jr.

MARCUS LINCOLN YOUNGS, JR. Marcus Youngs, Jr., age 84, passed away November 12, 2008 in Vancouver. He was born August 22, 1924 in Portland, OR. He grew up partially in Milwaukie, Portland and Cannon Beach. He graduated from Hill Military Academy in Portland and serviced in the Army during WWII as a 1st Lieutenant in Italy. After his service he attended Oregon State and received his BS Degree from University of Oregon. He married Genevieve in December of 1947 in Portland. They lived in California and worked for Union Carbide from 1959 to 1986 and then back to SW Portland for many years. They then spent 12 years in Neahkahnie during retirement before moving back to the Portland area. They spent the last year in Vancouver to be closer to family. Marcus played amputee golf and was involved in the organization. He taught his family the joys of camping, crabbing and clamming. He appreciated the ocean and was devoted to his wife and a role model for others. He is survived by his wife, Genevieve at home; son, Steven Nancy Youngs of Vancouver; daughters, Karen Johnson of Vancouver, Janet Fowler of Hamilton, MT; brother, George Helen Youngs of Davis, CA and 5 grandchildren. A private graveside service was held at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. Straubâ??s Funeral Home & Columbia River Cremation in Camas was in charge of the arrangements.
