Elven Victor Anderson
1924-2008
Elven â??Andyâ?? Anderson, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, November 5th, 2008.
He was born to John and Betty Anderson in Portland, Oregon on April 6th, 1924.
He grew up on a farm in NE Portland and only spoke Swedish until he was 5 ½ years old.
He attended Kennedy Grade School and graduated from Jefferson High School.
In 1943, he joined the 94th Infantry and served in WWII.
After the war, he attended Vanport College and then transferred to Oregon State College where he graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering.
During this time, he met Doris Hansen at a Presbyterian Church dance, and they were married in Eureka, CA on September 1, 1950. They had three daughters: Ann, Katy and Britt.
They moved to the Camas area in 1958 where he worked for Crown Zellerbach until his retirement.
He was a member of St. Johnâ??s Presbyterian Church, and for many years enjoyed teaching Sunday school.
After his retirement, he and Doris enjoyed bicycle trips in Europe, built a vacation home at Black Butte Ranch in Central Oregon and were regulars with the Osprey walking group. He spent hours enjoying his grandchildren and weaving his famous pine needle baskets.
He is survived by his wife, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Dorothy and Lewis Scott,
his three daughters and son-in-laws Mike Witkowski, Joe Vandomelen and Mark Stoller and 3 grand children Emilie, Ellen and Jacob. During his last several months, he was blessed by the companionship of his dog Elsa.
He was buried at Camas Cemetery, followed by a service at St. Johnâ??s Presbyterian Church.
Elvenâ??s strong hugs, fresh cookies, warm heart and love for life, will be missed by all who knew him.
