Dear Tipton Family,
Even though I only met Gary a few times, I feel I knew him through my long standing friendship with Randall. Randall has shared with me many aspects of his relationship with Gary. His recounting has painted a vivid picture of Gary as a wonderful parent, a concerned and devoted brother and son, and caring part of his community. I feel privileged to have been a witness to such a life, and have only the highest regard for the Tipton family. I wish you strength during this very hard time.

I have fond memories of Gary from when I first started working in IT at the Vancouver Division in \'91 when he was the Controller her. I have known Gary since were were seventh graders at Fontana Junior High in the early sixties. We shared many classes together, many adventures, and many, many laughs before graduating in 1965. We stayed in close contact during all the years prior to his moving to the Great Northwest.
After that, our visits were only via the U.S. Postal Service, usually being the traditional Christmas cards, an added letter, and photographs. My wife and I were thrilled when he wrote us that he had found the loves of his life in Mary and her two girls, Elizabeth and Stephanie. And when we found out about Mackenzie, we knew that Gary was on top of the World.
Although contact became less frequent in recent years, warm memories have kept him close to my heart. When I received the e-mail from him concerning his recent diagnosis, I was in shock and heartbroken for him and his family.
Recently, the FoHi Class of \'65 held a reunion. There were many great stories of Gary shared among his friends.
He was greatly loved. He will be greatly missed.

Gary was one of the most objective and fair managers I have every worked with in my career as an HR specialist. He will be missed by so many.
I am sorry that I cannot be at the services to show my support and honor his life. We have pulled our kids out of school for a semester and are in the middle of a cross-country trip. I wish to extend my sincere condolences to Gary\'s family on their tragic loss. Gary and I grew up together while attending Fontana Jr. High, FOHI, and San Bernardino Valley College. It was at Valley that I got to know Gary well when he was my "Little Brother" as he pledged Rho Sigma Chi fraternity. "Herc" loved to work-out pumping iron, treating his body like a temple. He was health-conscious and kept himself in the best possible shape. He was truly one of the nicest people I have ever met. He always looked for and found the best in people. His dry sense of humor and wit will be something I\'ll always remember. I am thankful that I was able to spend time with Gary 3 years ago when we went to the FOHI 50 year celebration. He told me he had been retired for 7 years and expressed the joy he had spending time with his family. Being able to have the time to be involved as a member of the school board and participate in educational decisisons gave him a sense of pride and community involvement. That involvement, of giving of one\'s self for the better of everyone, is the essence of Gary Tipton. My "Little Brother", you will be deeply missed. We all are better people for have known you.

This world has lost a very special person in Gary Tipton. I met Gary when I joined Vancouver Division in 1980 and have had the privilege of his friendship ever since. He was the â??skit masterâ?? in the early days and introduced us to "Carnac the Magnificent" among other characters. Gary had a deep understanding of â??the human conditionâ?? as he called it which gave him the ability to connect with others on a very personal level. He was brilliant and also a regular guy. He was a tough no nonsense straight shooter and also a sensitive soul. When he asked you how you were, he really listened and sincerely cared about your well being. His legendary humor was delivered smoothly with perfect nuance and timing. I plan to join some of you in honoring this great guy on Monday.

He was bright, competent, pragmatic, serious when it was called for and yet had a tremendous wit that broke the tension on so many occasions. There were many staff meetings where Gary\'s non-verbals would torture me as I tried to restrain myself from laughing. My heart goes out to Mary, the girls and the entire family. We have lost a strong and committed community leader and a real gem of a human being. May his family take solace in knowing how many people he touched in such a positive way while he was with us on this journey.

Mary and Family,
I am so sorry for your loss and our loss as a community. I remember seeing Gary at Lacamas and thinking what a wonderful role model he was for the kids. And of course he modeled so much more with the school board and foundation work. We will miss him and remember his contributions. If there is anything I can do please let me know.
Warmly, Kathy

I came to the Vancouver site back in \'91. My favorite memories of Gary were his hosting the coffee talks. I didn\'t know that he had a communications background, but now I understand why he was so engaging, drawing everyone in with his humor and making finance fun. A pure delight with his crappy graphs and laughter...I always looked forward to saying hello to him, the eye contact he made with me, the smile on his face -- he didn\'t know me all that well, but he certainly made me feel like he always knew me.

Gary was a warm, witty and wonderful friend of 40-plus years, beginning when we worked on the Fontana High School newspaper, The Fohi Forum, in 1963. My last memory of Gary was a cruise down memory lane that we took last fall, visiting the high school, our family homes in Fontana and other old haunts. My sincere sympathy goes to his wife, children, parents and brothers.

My heart is so saddened by the loss of this wonderful human being. Gary was an excellent boss and friend. He never failed to be present -- whether he was ferreting out a laugh at some detail, or briskly tackling a more diffcult task. He was always committed to doing the right thing. I am proud of his contributions to the community and to have had him as a friend. He will live on in those efforts and in our hearts.

His genuine warmth and friendliness impressed me a great deal. He was easy to work with and a true gentleman. His hard work on behalf of the schools and community is appreciated and will be greatly missed.

Our hearts go out to Mary and family on the loss of a fun, interesting, professionally competent, and community-service oriented father and husband. Gary was already at HP when I started in 1981 and I will always remember his humor as well as his subtle coaching and support. He always had a twinkle in his eye, a kind word, and an interesting take on just about anything. He will be missed by all, but remembered by all for his character and contribution.

Mary and family --
Our hearts ache for you at your loss. It is so fitting that you are having a "Celebration of Life\' for Gary, because his life has touched and lifted so many of us.
We met Gary in 1984 when we came to HP Vancouver. Gary was an upbeat, embracing soul who loved life; a true friend to so many; a hearty, energetic breath of fresh air in the workplace and in the community.
We have fond memories of our vacation with Allan and Mary Gross and Gary in Bangkok, Hong Kong, and China after a business trip to HP Singapore. It was a bonding adventure! Gary\'s signature outfit on that trip was his familiar light blue shirt that Linda nicknamed "Gary\'s blue thing". We smiled when we saw his picture today.
Gary, we celebrate you.

All of my memories of Gary bring a smile to my face. Gary\'s sense of humor, and sharp wit was always appreciated. Crappy graphs in a technology company ... made us all laugh.
I have many fond memories of Gary, myself , and Bob Foco sitting together in the late night hours closing the financial books during the start up of Vancouver Division. We worked our butts off and often laughed our butts off as well.
Gary will be missed by us all.
Please accept our deepest condolences.
