Obituary of Hilda Vail

HILDA VAIL Hilda Vail, of Camas, passed away June 28, 2008 in Vancouver at the age of 87. She was born October 7, 1920 in Heilbronn, Germany to Emil & Katherine Raskopf. In 1927 she moved to Chicago and graduated from high school in 1938. After she graduated she returned to Germany to visit her aunt and uncle. She was unable to return to the United States until after World War II was over. It was there she met her future husband. After returning to Chicago in 1946 she married James W. Vail and they lived in Chicago until moving to Camas in 1949. Hilda worked for the Camas School District at LaCamas Heights Elementary School for many years until she retired. She enjoyed traveling with their trailer, fishing, bowling and spending time with their grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, James W. Vail of Camas; two sons Gary Vail and wife Karen, Jim Vail and wife Sue, both of Camas; 3 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. A private family gathering will be held at a later date. Inurnment will also be private at the Camas Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Straubâ??s Funeral Home & Columbia River Cremation in Camas.
