Obituary of Esther Laura Foos

ESTHER LAURA FOOS Esther Foos, a longtime Camas resident, passed away May 23, 2008 in Vancouver. She was born January 18, 1924, near Wellington, CO. She was the seventh of nine children born to John and Marie Stencel, who were Germans from Russia and immigrated to the United States in 1907. She grew up in Colorado and married Herman Foos, the love of her life, on December 11, 1940. They moved to a farm in North Dakota, where there daughter was born. They later moved back to Colorado to a farm and eventually to Camas in 1946 where they both found work in the Crown Zellerbach Paper Mill. Esther worked in the converting plant until the mid 1960â??s when she retired to become a homemaker. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church since moving to Camas and loved family gatherings, sharing recipes especially for the family recipe book. Esther loved cards of any kind, going out to lunch with the girls, traveling and trips to Ocean Shores. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Herman; four brothers, Henry, Reuben, John and Fred; two sisters, Lydia Pappenheim and Irene Miller and an infant grandson. Survivors include her daughter, Connie Cecil Olsen of Camas; step-grandson, Gregory Olsen of Fairview, OR; and brothers, Joe Stencel of Eaton, CO and Ben Stencel of Loveland, CO. A funeral Service will be held Wednesday, May 28, 20008 at 11am at Zion Lutheran Church in Camas. Vault interment will be at the Camas Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Straubâ??s Funeral Home & Columbia River Cremation in Camas.
