MABRY, CHARLES F.
Sept. 24, 1932~ March 24, 2008- Charles Chuck Mabry passed away peacefully on March 24, 2008, at the age of 75 at the Ray Hickey Hospice House. He was born in Camps Island, Louisiana and moved to Vancouver, WA, at the age of 9. Chuck served in the Air Force in Tokyo, Japan. He worked at the Camas paper mill for 42 years where he met the love of his life, Mary. They were married for 48 years. He was the assistant Scout Master for Troop 308 for many years and took the troop on many hikes on the Crest Trail. He also coached T-ball with his boys. He loved hunting in the Blue Mountains and fishing for halibut in Alaska with his brothers. He was well known on the Columbia River for his salmon and sturgeon fishing at Bonneville Dam. He and Mary built their dream home on Prune Hill in Camas in 1966 and enjoyed many years there before moving to Fern Prairie in Camas. He and Mary loved to travel but their favorite place was in Tucson, Arizona, to see their best friends, Frankie and Larry Colligan. He is survived by his wife, Mary; sons, Doug Mabry of Vancouver and David Mabry of Camas; daughter, Denise Hood; five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; two sisters, Maggie and Larette; and two half-brothers, Marion and Cecil. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Bill; and his brothers, Bill and Luther. A service will be held Saturday, March 29, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Straub's Funeral Home in Camas followed by a celebration of his life at Camas United Methodist Church at 704 N.E. 14th Ave. Donations may be made in Chuck's name to Hospice Southwest for all of their loving care.
