ROBERT WILLIAM DEUTSCHER
Major Robert W. Deutscher, of Camas, passed away February 9, 2008 at the Ray Hickey Hospice House in Vancouver at the age of 88. He was born March 10, 1919 in Scranton, ND. Bob graduated from Camas High School and married Washougal girl, Hazel Alberta Bedell. They were married for 60 years before she passed away from cancer in 2001. IN 2002, at the young age of 83 he married Mona Stern and they enjoyed 5 great years together.
Bob was in the Air Force as a pilot and retired from the Air Force Reserves. His daughter called him her Major Dad. He also worked for Crown Zellerbach in the accounting department before retiring.
Mr. Deutscher loved fishing, camping, winters in Yuma, AZ, poker, cribbage and sometimes skip-bo he usually lost.
Bob always saw the glass as half full, not half empty.
He is survived by his wife, Mona Deutscher, at home; daughter, Billie Strong of Vancouver; grandchildren Lori Strong and Kirk Strong both Vancouver.
A celebration of Bobâ??s life will be held Thursday, February 14 at 1PM at Straubâ??s Funeral Home in Camas. Inurnment with full military honors will follow at 3PM Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. Straubâ??s Funeral Home & Columbia River Cremation in Camas is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be given to either the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children @ 3101 SW Sam Jackson Park Rd. Portland, OR 97201 or to a charity of choice.
