Arlo Deane Shurtz
1933 - 2008
We are deeply saddened by the loss of our beloved grandfather, father, and husband, Arlo Deane Shurtz. He passed away at his home in Washougal on February 8, surrounded by loved ones. He was 74 years old.
Arlo was born on October 18, 1933 in Gooding, Idaho to Sheldon and Rosa Shurtz, and was raised with four siblings. His family moved to Washougal in 1941, where he graduated from Washougal High School. Later, he spent four years in the Air Force and served in the Korean War. Arlo was a wonderful husband to Inez, who he married in 1984; they spent 24 years together. He worked at GTE for 25 years, and retired in 1993.
In his golden years, Arlo enjoyed working in the yard and around the house. He also enjoyed cooking, and watching Emeril on television. He was extremely loved by his grandchildren, and was an exceptional grandfather.
Arlo is survived by his wife Inez, at home; his mother Rosa, in Camas; brothers Garrold, in Beaverton and Duane Joanne, in Rochester, WA; sister Ilene Burns, in Goldendale; children Lisa John Whalen, Kelly Clark Spurling, Leann Ray Wilkins, Molly Morris, Sadie Jeremy Walker, in Washougal; and Kyle, in Las Vegas. He also leaves behind ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Sheldon, and his sister, Leilani Kanekoa.
