Obituary of Lynne Marie Kettering

Please share a memory of Lynne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lynne Marie Eickmeyer was born on July 12th 1954 to Faye and Jack Eickmeyer in Pasco, WA. She was the oldest of three children. Lynne was raised to do everything with creativity, quality, excellence, and perseverance. As she matured, her love of cultures and different races began to show through. She would befriend the friendless and even at a time when race riots where happening at the school she would think nothing of including a black person in her social group. Lynne accepted everyone. After Lynne graduated from Pasco high school she went on to get an AA in police science from Columbia Basin CC. She then went to WSU a few years and then ended up at Ba-sist College in Portland, studying interior design. While in Portland she met Kent and they married in 1976. The happy couple settled in Camas where they had two children, Rob Allen in 1979 and Kari Lynne who was born at their home in Camas in 1982. Lynne was a dedicated stay at home mom and a La Leche League leader, one of the first in her area. In the mid 80?s the Kettering?s moved to Washougal. At age 10 Rob died in a bicycle accident. This tragic event was a major turning point in all their lives. Lynne and Kent desperately sought the Lord for healing and answers and found a well of life in Jesus. They learned a lot about the power of Gods word and found healing for their hearts in Him. A door was opened in 1992 for the whole family to travel to Latvia. Lynne fell in love with Latvia and wanted everyone to experience it first hand. Her dream was then to see young people?s lives radically changed by experiencing life in another culture, Latvian culture in particular. She had many exciting adventures in Latvia and if opportunity had presented itself I?m sure she would have become a Latvian citizen. Lynne and Kent became very active in St. Matthew?s youth group and lead the teen?s on many meaningful servant outreaches. Lynne?s heart was to see young people?s lives changed through knowing Jesus and that serving Jesus meant serving others. Such was Lynne?s love of other cultures, it was no surprise that Kari would meet and marry a non-American. Much to Lynne?s delight, God directed Jon and Kari together. In 2002 they were married and moved to Norway. But the reality of the distance between Washougal and Oslo was almost unbearable especially after Lynne assisted in the homebirth of her first grandchild, Sydney Leona, last summer. It was in 2003 Lynne was diagnosed with breast cancer. After much consideration of treatment options, She and Kent chose a non-conventional route to fight the cancer. Lynne loved to share everything she was learning about health and wellness to anyone who inquired. People she didn?t even know heard about what she was doing and would call her wanting to know more. This among other things inspired her to enroll in a master?s program in naturopathy at Trinity College to better serve and benefit others. Lynne was an inspiration. Her endless devotion to serving others, her creativity, her quick mind, her steadfastness to her faith and love of Jesus shown brightly in her life. She was a very special woman who impacted both people and nations. Lynne died in Camas, WA on September 7th , 2007. She is survived by her husband Kent Kettering, daughter Kari Lynne Spikkeland, Sister Lori Simpson, and brother Lee Eickmeyer. Services were held on Saturday 15th of September at 11am at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Washougal, WA. Straub's Funeral Home & Columbia River Cremation in Camas was in charge of the arrangements. Inurnment will be private at the Washougal Memorial Cemetery. To send condolences or to sign the online guestbook visit www.straubsfuneralhome.com.
