Obituary of Jessie L. Spencer

JESSIE L. SPENCER Jessie L. Spencer, 92, passed away September 2, 2007. She was born on Tahlequah, OK on February 6, 1915. Proud of her Cherokee heritage, Jessie spent most of her life in Dubois, PA until moving to Vancouver in 1989. Jessie was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. For 40+ years she devoted her life to child evangelism through Good News clubs in her home. She and her husband, Harry, were also committed house parents for 20 years to many orphaned boys at the Milton Hershey School in Hershey, PA. Jessie enjoyed reading her bible, praying for family and friends, entertaining, and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, FJ and Amanda Still, 2 brothers and 1 sister, and her wonderful husband of 63 years, Harry. She is survived by her son, Dean daughter-in-law, Marsha, of Vancouver, foster daughter, Kathleen Dunsworth of Dubois, PA, sister, Hazel Shaddock of Dubois, PA, 4 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends. A memorial service will be held Sunday, September 16 at 3pm at the Laurelwood Baptist Church in Vancouver. Straub?s Funeral Home & Columbia River Cremation in Camas is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that support be given to a child evangelism ministry of choice.
