Obituary of Joseph Robert Woodcock

JOSEPH ROBERT WOODCOCK Joe Woodcock, a longtime Washougal resident, passed away August 4, 2007 at the Ray Hickey Hospice House in Vancouver. He was 83. Joe was born September 30, 1923 in Huntington, OR to Thomas and Agnes Prout Woodcock. He graduated from Maupin High School in 1941 and enlisted in the Navy that same year serving during WWII. Joe was awarded the Purple Heart and was discharged in 1945. He returned to The Dalles and married Alice Gibson in 1945. They divorced in 1952. Joe would marry Joan Light in 1957 and they made their home in Washougal. He worked for the Camas Furniture Company for over 20 years and was Citizen of the Year for Camas/Washougal in 1989. Mr. Woodcock was a member of the 40 et 8, the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Joe was a former member of Orchard Hills Golf & Country Club, a little league coach and a member of the Washougal Lions Club for 34 years. He loved golfing, hunting, playing cards, watching sports and MASH on TV and reading Western books. Joe had a great sense of humor up to the last day. He was preceded in death by his brother, Vernon and sister, Jean. Survivors include his wife, Joan at home; daughter, Peggy Snyder of Greenbrae, CA; son, Joseph Woodcock and his wife, Theresa of Washougal; sister-in-law June Woodcock of Salem, OR; 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Monday, August 13 at 11am at the Washougal United Methodist Church. Straub?s Funeral Home & Columbia River Cremation in Camas is in charge of the arrangements. Memorial donations can be given to either the Ray Hickey Hospice House at 2112 E. Mill Plain Blvd. Vancouver, WA 98661 or to the Washougal Lions Club.
