Obituary of Le Roy Lester Burns

Le Roy L. Burns Le Roy Burns, of Vancouver, passed away January 22, 2008 in Vancouver at the age of 79. He was born March 28, 1928 in Camas, WA to Blanche Erickson and Lester Burns. Le Roy attended Skye Grade School and graduated from Washougal High School. Mr. Burns received his Bachelorâ??s Degree from Eastern Washington State University and his Masterâ??s Degree in Education from Oregon State University. He would serve his country with the U.S. Marine Corps during Korea and for 30 years in the Reserve and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. Le Roy was a member of the Cape Horn American Legion Post 122 Voiture 99 Clark County 40 et 8. Mr. Burns was a teacher and a coach for many years. He taught or coached at Ridgefield High School, Rainier, OR High School, Fort Vancouver High School, Hudsonâ??s Bay High School, Oregon State University and Clark College. He loved coaching and being around young people. He also enjoyed fishing, the outdoors and his farm. He was preceded in death by his wife, Colleen in 1997; granddaughter, Mary Sadler and grandsons, Edward Miles and Lonnie Williams. Survivors include his sons, Kent Burns of Amboy, WA, Keith Burns of Cathlamet, WA; daughters, Karrie Burns-Sadler of Craig, Alaska, Katheryne Burns-Elston of Vancouver, WA; brother, R. Robert Burns of Ridgefield, WA and 9 grandchildren. An open house is scheduled for Sunday, January 27 from 2pm to 6pm at the American Legion Post 14 @ 4607 NE St. James Rd. Vancouver, WA 98663. All former students, athletes, friends and families are welcome. Funeral services will be private. Vault interment will also be private at Washougal Memorial Cemetery.
