“To live in the hearts we leave behind, is to live forever.” – Carl Sagan
Skyler Matthew Murphy passed away on August 7, 2025. He was 22.
He was born in Santa Barbara to Sueann and Matthew Murphy on August 11, 2002 and
moved with his family to Camas in 2005. Camas was the place he called home.
He and his brother Conner were the best and closest of friends and they shared
countless adventures together as well as hours of laughter.
As a very young child, Skyler faced a myriad of health and developmental challenges.
Nothing was handed to him early on. Nonetheless, he went on to become an active, independent, and wholly unique youngman. He faced and overcame setbacks that most people cannot imagine, and he did sowith grace and positivity and an unflagging spirit of generosity.
He led a life full of fascination. He travelled often: visiting family in Arkansas and
Minnesota, exploring Florida, California, Kauai and many other places.
He learned wrestling, sailing, and martial arts. He loved skiing. He adored animals: he went horseback riding, swam with dolphins in Puerto Vallarta, and volunteered at the Columbia Gorge Cat Shelter. And above all, his dogs-- Jack and Kloe-- held a special place in his heart.
He also volunteered with youth rugby teams, at the Columbia Gorge sailing association,
and at various Boy Scout initiatives. With the Boy Scouts, he received the Order of the
Arrow and made it to the rank of Life Scout.
An imaginative and talented artist, Skyler also built his own gaming computer which he
was constantly improving.
Skyler shaped those around him for the better. He brought many different kinds of
people together, and it is a great privilege to have known him.
He is survived by his parents, his brother Conner, and by many other treasured relatives
and friends.
