Eleanor “Ellie” Wiley McCallum

Ellie was born in Seattle May 6, 1930 followed 15 minutes later by her twin sister Marie.

She married James McCallum, the love of her life, July 7, 1951 while they were attending Western Washington University.  They moved to Camas in August of 1953 when Jim accepted a teaching position in Camas.

Ellie was an active member of St. John’s Presbyterian Church for 60+ years.  She served as a Sunday school teacher, and later as an Elder and Deacon. She was a delegate to the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church U.S.A.

She served as a volunteer in the American Syringomyelia Alliance Project and was on their Board of Directors.  She also volunteered for several years at Friends of the Carpenter in Vancouver.

In Aug of 1969 she earned her Master’s degree in Education and Library Science.  She worked in both the Camas and Washougal School Districts.  As an active school librarian she was a member of the Washington state Association of School Librarians.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Jim McCallum, parents George and Adele Wiley, brother and sister-in-law Clyde and Gladys Wiley. She is survived by her twin sister Marie; children Katy (Carlos) Tager, Wiley McCallum, John (Regina) McCallum, Willy McCallum; grandsons Casey & Jeffrey Tager and Dylan & Pyper McCallum; great grandchildren Brayden & Tenley Tager and Myles McCallum.

Her main hobbies were reading, sewing, and gardening.  She was an avid sports fan of Seattle baseball, the Oregon Ducks, and the Portland Trailblazers.

Memorial services will be held at St. John’s Presbyterian Church in Camas on Saturday March 3rd at 2:00p.m.  Donations may be made to St. John’s Presbyterian Church in Camas or to Friends of the Carpenter in Vancouver.
